2019-2020
In an effort to preserve the legacy and history of the work of Leadership Jessamine County class projects, this class created this web page to document the breadth and depth of LJC class projects and their impact on the community.
It is our hope that future classes will continue to add to this work.
2016-2017
The LJC Class of 2017 created the Nicholasville Farmer’s Market and established its governing board. Their main goals were to improve access to healthy foods, support local growers, and generate community-based gathering opportunities. To inform their efforts, the class hosted an open house at the library for the community to weigh in and provide ideas. They also consulted with the Wilmore Farmer’s Market, the Jessamine County Extension Office, Community Farm Alliance, as well as local farmers and vendors. Their project was a success, with new vendors applying for spots each year. Check out their website and Facebook page for more information.
2013-2014
The class of 2014 had two main goals for their project: they created a Leadership Jessamine County alumni database and worked on creating a link with the Jessamine County Youth Leadership program. Their contributions to the alumni database has allowed for strengthened communication among previous classes and has provided valuable resources for future classes.
2010-2011
This class focused on upgrading the Providence School. The school was moving to a new location and this class helped with some landscaping, painting inside the building, and 2 members from the library helped donate books that helped set up their library.
2007-2008
The Leadership Jessamine County class of 2008 renovated a room at Active Adult Day (an adult day care facility) making it a safe and usable activity room for the clients. Working from donations money, goods, and time by the class members and their businesses they cleaned, repainted, and provided new furniture and games.
According to one class member, the greatest reward in this project was seeing how it all came together for the benefit of those who needed and we now able to use this space.

2018-2019
This class decided to create artwork to display in the newly renovated Performance Park. The class raised money from their organizations to buy sheets of plywood for Jessamine County students to design. 11 plywoods boards were given to elementary & middle schools for them to decide how they would be designed. The school could decide how they would be painted. Some were painted by art classes, specific students, and by various people who attended a school event. Once they were all completed, there was an open house at JCPL, and schools were given pictures of their paintings to keep. There was also a reveal in Performance Park with a musician playing.
2015-2016
The Leadership Jessamine County class of 2016 came together to build Rock Fence Park in Nicholasville. The park is now maintained by Parks and Recreation in Jessamine County and sees hundreds of kids every year. The class had several challenges that come with a project like this but were able to push through and raise the money along with getting other leaders in the community to pitch in for various other parts of what it took to build the park. There is a sign up in the park that has a list of sponsors that donated to help make the park a reality.
2017-2018
Desiring to address the needs of downtown Nicholasville residents, the 2018 LJC class initially chose to focus their energy on fundraising for and building a playground at the Caroline Memorial YMCA. Utilizing the talents of several fundraisers in the group they were able to collectively raise close to $13,000. In the end, they incorporated a separate project and bought a refrigerator for the Jessamine County Food Bank as well as paved and improved the grounds of the YMCA.
2014-2015
The Leadership Jessamine County class of 2015 focused on meeting the needs of our students in Jessamine County. They organized a backpack drive and then distributed the backpacks to each school.

2012-2013
Their project involved marking the hiking trails at a new nature preserve off Corman Lane in Jessamine County. They also developed information for tourism to update the existing tourism website for Jessamine County.
The trail markings were a successful part of the project; however, assisting tourism with updates did not last long. The trail markings are still in place and trails are still being utilized.
There was no cost involved with their project and there was no need for fundraisers.
2009-2010
The 2010 Leadership Jessamine County class was large and sharply divided over the Community Service Project. After much discussion and a vote, the class settled on an Adopt a Highway program that had financial backing through local sponsorships. The class conducted the clean-up on a couple mile stretch of Jessamine County highway and donated proceeds back to the LJC program.
2006-2007
The original project plan for the 2007 Leadership Jessamine County was to assist with a Habitat for Humanity build project. Due to last-minute complications with the land on which the house was to be built, the building project was cancelled. A decision was made to have LJC class participant provide volunteer service hours at the now closed Habitat for Humanity store in Nicholasville. Each participant agreed to provide a minimum of two hours of volunteer service.
2011-2012
LJC Class of 2012 started the Safe Place program in Jessamine County. Safe Place is a nationwide community initiative that provides immediate help to teens in crisis. The class recognized a gap in the safety net for Jessamine County teens, and worked to develop partnerships between local businesses and Arbor Youth Services, a local non-profit that provides emergency shelter for children and youth. Jessamine County teens in crises situations can now receive access to immediate help by going to any business where the familiar yellow and black Safe Place sign is displayed.
2008-2009
The Leadership Jessamine County class of 2009 created a tourism video focusing on why Jessamine County is such a great place to live, work, and play. The video included interviews with representatives from local government, Jessamine County Schools, the tourism council, and other stakeholders in the community.
The hope of the class was that this video would be used by the tourism council and the chamber of commerce to showcase our community to future families, visitors, and businesses.
2005-2006
This class set up a food drive in front of Walmart and Kroger for those who are food insecure. All the donated food was distributed in food bags at Nicholasville Christian Church.
LJC Class of 2004 hosted a Women's Health Day. Partnering with local businesses, the class provided health services to Jessamine County women of all ages and classes.
